Mountain Lake Software, Inc. is pleased to announce the winners of our 1st International Story Contest. We were overwhelmed by the amount of entries we received and very impressed by the quality of both the writing and the art.
The entries were divided into three age categories: 7-10, 11-13, and 14-16.
Ages 7-10
In the 7-10 category Kelsey E. Hill from Harbor Beach, MI won first prize and is the happy owner of a new color printer!! Kelsey's story is entitled "Beeper's Adventures on Earth" and is published in this issue. We recommend that you read it--it's a great story!
We had two second prize winners: Jack Panucki from Hamburg, NY and Marcelina Maciejewski from Ontario, Canada. These two budding authors won lots of great software.
Third prize winners are Jaclyn Gregory from Longwood, FL, Miranda Lebdell from Findlay, OH and Wulia Beakoi from Newark, NJ and they are now enjoying a software package of their choice.
Ages 11-13
Maricel Pena from Solvang, CA is enjoying her color printer which she won as first prize in the 11-13 age category. We were very impressed with Maricel's story "What's Beyond the Mountains?" This is a very original story and makes great reading. It is published in this issue.
Second place prizes were awarded to Molly Sweeney from Falmouth, MA and Rachel Picone from Tuscsaloosa AL. Rachel's article is published in this issue and we will be publishing Molly's work very soon, so stay tuned!
Third prizes went to Alyssa Berman from Hollywood, FL, Jamie Dame from Redwood City, CA and Matthew Zimmerman from Seattle, WA.
Ages 14-16
There was some really terrific fiction submitted in the 14-16 category, and Dave Kirtley's "Special Effects" won him first prize and a color printer. Dave is from Katonah, NY and his story is published in this issue.
Second prizes went to Kami Brin Edwards from Glendale, AZ and Mike Hughes from Mission, B.C. Kami's hilarious story "Masner's Fortune" is published in this issue. It's a comic story that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face!!
Jen Baker from Moravia, NY, Dan Treiber from Bronx, NY and Nicholas Martorelli from Norisstown, PA all won third prize in this section.
Honorable Mentions
Megan Satterfield-Smith from Davis, CA won honorable mention for her story, "Mystery at Patwin Elementary" and Laurie Wilson from Joppa, MD won honorable mention for her art in the story, "The Unicorn." You can see Laurie's art in this issue.
We were really impressed by all these stories and cheered by the great imaginations of all the kids who entered. We hope that all of our entrants will continue to develop their creativity by writing and illustrating more stories. We encourage you all to submit more stories to us for publication in this magazine!! Go on--use your imagination!!
