Hawaii
by Kyle Morgan, age 12, from US
The white glittering beach lay mirrored in the transparent water. Surf pounded down
upon the sand, altering the beach's formation for eternity. Birds twittered in the
trees, and palm fronds rustled like rain on a rooftop. At the water's edge we donned
our swim gear. We had made the mistake of putting our gear on before we reached the
water's edge. I learned the hard way that it's nearly impossible to walk on land with
flippers. With flippers, you have to walk backwards. As we entered the crystal clear
water, an entirely new world opened up before our eyes. The bustle of above had
disappeared. When our flippers stirred up the last pieces of sand, we began to
comprehend the great magnitude of the ocean.
