Water vs. Life
by Amanda Slack, age 10, from Canada
The water is calm, and clear like
glass.
Just like a mirror, I can see my face,
And I realize,
I don't know who I am.
All I know is the stillness of the water,
It seems as if it's what keeps me alive.
But I know that it's not the water,
What keeps me alive is life itself.
Suddenly a rush of memories flood out,
I remember.
Life can be as smooth and peaceful as a still lake,
But it has to have rough times,
Like the choppy waves that crash against the shore.
I stand up,
I've renewed myself.
As I walk away I think of the water.
I know far more than just that.
