Starlight Christmas

by Meghan Reynolds, age 9, from US

One day, a young girl named Meghan Reynolds was walking down the road at 6:30 a.m. on a freezing day in mid December. You are probably wondering why she was on a walk at 6:30 in the morning on the weekend! Well, she was on her way to Rose Hurst Stables in Middlebury, Connecticut, on that cold Sunday morning. She went horse back riding there and helped out with the horses. When the brushes in her grooming box hit each other they went click, clack, click, clack on that cold and quiet morning. She felt like she was the only person on earth because it was so silent outside.

As Meghan walked along she dreamed of Christmas which was only a week away. then her wonderful dreams broke in half when she heard a loud neigh of a horse.

"What was that?" Meghan said out loud.

She could hear a horse's hooves thundering down the road. What should I do? Meghan thought. She saw that her lead rope was still in her grooming box. I certainly hope that horse has a halter on. She could tell by the sound that the horse was getting closer and slowing down.
