The Most Embarrassing Night

by Aram Oganyan, age 12, from US

In Armenia you can find a telephone only in a few houses. Finally, one day we got a telephone. It was already 11:00 p.m. when we got our number and we were calling everywhere.

When everyone was finished with the telephone I got it and started to look at how it works and stuff. At last it was 12:00 a.m. I didn't have anything to do so I opened the telephone book. I found my girl friend's number and I called her. My girlfriend goes to sleep at 8:00 p.m.

I called and her sister picked up the phone and sounded like she was asleep. Then I realized that it was 12:00 a.m. She asked who it was and I said Aram. I asked to speak with Melanea. She went to get her. I was very embarrassed. I was trying to think of something to say so I wouldn't be embarrassed.

When she came to the phone, I asked if she knew if it was true that our French teacher had been hit by a car and killed. She knew that this was an excuse to talk to her. She told me not to call her after 8:00 p.m. That was the most embarrassing moment of my life. I still get red every time I remember this story.
