There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom

by Louis Sachar

reviewed by a 5th grade teacher, from US

This story is about a boy who is having a lot of social problems with his classmates and takes on the "front" of not caring about himself or others. No one likes him, including his teachers, until he meets the new school counselor, Carla Davis. She teaches him that he is worthy of respect and love. After reading this book to my fifth graders, I read it to my own kids (aged 8 and 9). We laughed til our sides hurt and other times cried with the characters. It is a wonderful book.
