THE HISTORY OF MONOPOLY®
The game of Monopoly was invented by a man named Charles Darrow in the year 1930. Darrow had lost his job in the Great Depression. He worked on his kitchen table in Pennsylvania, sketching out the game of Monopoly. He based the game on his family's favorite seaside resort - Atlantic City. After playing, and perfecting the game with his friends, he sold a few copies to several stores in Philadelphia. A game company named Parker Brothers bought the rights to the game in 1935, and two years later, the game of Monopoly® had become a best-seller in the United States.
